Summer, Montreal and online

Summer Tutoring in Montreal: arriving in September in a strong position

Summer is the only time of year when a student can work without chasing the syllabus: consolidating what went wrong, getting ahead of the new year, or preparing a specific deadline (Brevet, Baccalaureate, an entrance examination, the move to CEGEP). I offer summer tutoring in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science in Montreal and online, as a mathematics tutor in Montreal with more than 10 years of experience.

Why summer changes things

During the year, a struggling student has to close their gaps and keep up with new chapters at the same time: that is running after a moving train. In summer, the train has stopped. We can finally go back to the real cause of the blockage, usually a shaky base from earlier years, consolidate it calmly, and restart the following year at level, or a step ahead.

The other reality of summer is the slide: two months with no practice, and part of the calculation reflexes evaporate, above all in mathematics. A few spaced sessions are enough to keep the machinery running without turning the holidays into a school term.

The right dose is a case by case matter: a student who did well does not need the same summer as one who came off the rails in February. The first session is exactly for that: taking stock and choosing the lightest formula that reaches the goal.

Four ways to use the summer

Consolidating the year just finished

For a student whose year was hard: we go back over the chapters that broke down, tracing back to the foundations underneath them. No syllabus to keep up with in parallel, no test on Friday. It is the most effective format of the whole year for turning a subject endured into a subject understood.

Getting ahead of the new year

For a student facing a pivotal year: Secondary 4 and its sequences, Premiere and its specialities, Terminale and the Baccalaureate, or the first term of CEGEP. We clear the ground on the key chapters ahead, so the student revisits them in class instead of meeting them cold. The effect on confidence in the first weeks is striking.

Preparing an examination: Brevet, Baccalaureate, admission

For the deadline that is coming: the Brevet at the end of Troisieme, the speciality papers and the Grand oral in Terminale, or an entrance test (French schools, Quebec private secondary schools such as College Jean-de-Brebeuf). Summer allows the syllabus to be covered in depth and then practised on real papers under exam conditions, without the preparation competing with the week's homework.

Getting a transition right: to CEGEP, to a new system

For the student changing worlds: from Secondary 5 to CEGEP calculus NYA (the most underestimated jump of the Quebec path), from the AEFE curriculum to the Quebec system or the reverse, or arriving in Montreal from France. Many families at Lycee Marie de France and College Stanislas ask about moving to a Quebec school such as Brebeuf, at secondary or CEGEP level: I prepare those transitions regularly. We clear the ground on the other side before setting foot on it: vocabulary, methods, the chapters that hinge.

How summer sessions run

A rhythm that respects the holidays

One or two sessions a week at cruising speed, or an intensive block over one or two weeks before a deadline. Travel weeks are planned around, or covered online.

Online from anywhere

Microsoft Teams and OneNote, digital whiteboard, real-time annotation: the same tools used at Lycee Marie de France and College Stanislas. The session follows the student, not the other way round.

Work between sessions, in measured doses

A few targeted problems between sessions, chosen from my bank of more than 6 300 corrected exercises, to keep the reflexes alive without taking over the summer. Support between sessions stays included.

A report before the new year

The summer ends with a clear account: what is consolidated, what is still shaky, and the plan for the first weeks of the year. Parents know exactly where the student stands.

Summer places go early, particularly the August slots before the new year: write to me as soon as your plan takes shape. A trial session is possible before any commitment.
